I did yet another search of "new science fiction movies" and came up with this Korean cyberpunk actioner which came out this month
and logged some incredible view times on Netflix.

It takes place in a dystopian future where Earth is destroyed by climate change and about 80 space colonies have been built to hold much of
the population. Three of the colonies revolt and start a war which lasts 40 years, and involves creating AI soldiers with human brains implanted in robot bodies (never mind the ethical implications of how things got to that weird point of brain transplants which confer a sort of cold, unfeeling immortality). You'll find echoes of Japanese themed animes and live actions such as Alita Battle Angel or Ghost in the Shell, or even Bladerunner (the Replicants) and Fassbender's David from Alien/Prometheus.

Most of the action takes place amongst only a handful of characters in the AI research lab, but near the end there's a furious action sequence fight
on a moving elevated train. There is some nice peril, where the main female fighting character is attacked by a bunch of robots and undergoes some serious injuries and throatlifts.

Unfortunately, this film marks the final appearance of the actress who plays the female soldier's scientist daughter (all through the movie, you had to seriously wonder how she could stand doing experiments on what was left of her mother), as she died of a brain hemorrhage shortly after this was released - a terrible tragedy at age 55.

If you're down for some cyberpunk and high-tech robot action (at times, it almost feels like a video game), then this will fill the bill, and I don't think you'll consider this time wasted. If the female protagonist finds a new society out there in the rejuvenating wilderness of the Earth, there could be some kind of sequel like there was with the Mad Max movies.
