The story takes plays during the season two episode “Intimate Stranger”. It is told completely from Xena’s point of view. It starts with her in Callisto’s body, but the first person she meets is Gabrielle, alone in the forest. I added an author’s note at the end to explain this a bit deeper.

Xena turned around when she heard Gabrielle’s angry voice. This anger was no surprise to her. Xena was in Callisto’s body and the bard did not know this yet. With the support of Hades, the Warrior Princess had just returned from Tartaros, but even he could not help her with her body. So now Xena had to convince Gabrielle of the truth. It would not be easy, the bard hated Callisto like none other. Xena stepped slightly aside, avoiding any fast or threatening movements, while she tried to choose her words. But it was Gabrielle, who spoke first.
“Believe me, I will fight you and this time I will beat you. I am no longer that little girl you could take so easily. This time, you won’t be able to have your way with me and my body, like those other times.”
By the gods! Rage flooded Xena’s mind. Was this true? Had Callisto …?
“So, you did fuck me both times you had me imprisoned in your hideouts.” Gabrielle continued, missing Xena’s reaction.

In the beginning of the episode “Intimate Stranger”, Callisto is in Tartarus (more or less the Greek version of hell), but manages to trick Xena into a body switch. She is in Xena’s body, causing havoc on earth, while Xena is trapped in Callisto’s body in Tartarus. She manages to convince hades, the God of the underworld, of the truth and gets a chance to go after Callisto. She wins, but does not immediately get her body back. That would have been the originally planned ending, but the actress Lucy Lawless had an accident and broke her pelvis. The producers reacted quickly and changed the ending, allowing them to use Callisto actress Hudson Leick for another episode (“Ten Little Warlords”) with only very little rewrites.
