So, to start with, I *know* this is probably a stupid question. GIGA obscures genitals in their videos to comply with Japanese law. My assumption has always been that this is integrated into the video itself, and there is no way to undo it. However, at the risk of somehow being wrong, I thought I would ask if anyone knows of a way to remove it? It's probably the most distracting thing from their otherwise excellent videos, and I figured there would be no harm to at least asking the question other than people on the forum thinking I'm a *complete* idiot.

I would guess it can't be deblurred at the product end but they can re-export the video without the blur. Usually its just some circle as a mask that's kept over the naughty stuff and blurred. Can you write them and ask for a de-blurred version?

Thanks, that's what I suspected. I don't think they'd be receptive to de-blurring though since I think they do it for legal compliance.

The standard is so stupid. I sold a product on DLSite once and had to go blur all the naughty bits.

I cannot imagine them risking their livelihood or liberty by allowing an uncensored version to ever escape their vault.
Not by using some censor-on-delivery or censor-on-playback technology, and not for incrementally more sales in a secondary market.

Back in the 90s there was a situation where someone posted images (I think it was a news agency) that had blocked tits of a woman in some sort of story they were running. Within a day someone had removed the black bars from the image and the full Monty was revealed. The data was there underneath the filter layer. Not the type mistake you make twice. If those filters could be removed, some wanker would have done it already…

Not an expert on Japan, but prior to the westernization of Japan, they were really relaxed about sexuality and nudity. Fucking western missionaries have fuck up everything…

You can't deblur a video on the product end unless it was blurred using a program embedded into the video's code which can be manipulated in the same or similar program on your end.

As Giga probably does not do this, and even if they did do this do not advertise what (if any) programs they may use to do this it is essentially impossible to deblur on the product end.

I'm pretty sure Giga videos are all pretty much 'done' and don't have deeper 'custom' level coding in the video files to begin with.

A reversible blur filter is a conspiracy theorist's wet dream.

To be fair, much of the Japanese Gigaporn has really great production values and they do seem to put a lot into their videos. It may be that having to blur the money shots has pushed them to excel in other areas of production. Most American porn puts minimal interest in costuming and mood lighting. Got to have enough light on the money makers… maybe not having that makes them look more at the over all production?

Thanks for all of the replies! I certainly enjoy and appreciate GIGA videos. I love their style and high production values. The blurring is a very minor thing overall. I guess there was just an irrational part of me that hoped somehow it was a wink and nod gesture at compliance that could be undone. My only other minor complaint is that they seem to have stopped doing any subtitling, but understandable that it's not worth the effort/resources. Maybe I'll be able to find some sort of Google/Microsoft Translate type solution at some point. Anyway, thank you again for confirming that I wasn't missing anything.

I am surprised they have not tried dubbing the more popular ones into English
