Re: Val Kilmer gone

RIP Val Kilmer.

You’ll forever live in my mind as Ice from Top Gun.

Let’s also remember he wore the cape as Batman.

An unforgettable actor and a true legend.

Re: Val Kilmer gone

He was a Long time smoker. It's too bad.

The cause was pneumonia, said his daughter, Mercedes Kilmer. Val Kilmer was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014 but later recovered, she said.

I just can't understand why anyone would start smoking ever? SMH It's easily avoidable.

Re: Val Kilmer gone

It's a weird thing. I saw a guy on Twitter say Val Kilmer's role in Tombstone was his definitive role and what he is best known for, but I opined that Top Gun was one of the biggest blockbusters of the 80's and 90's, more folks know him from that film rather than Tombstone, which did well, just not otherworldly so like Top Gun. Kilmer made some interesting acting choices with his choice of films.

Re: Val Kilmer gone

Very sad news. He was absolutely spectacular in Tombstone - he had the benefit of a good script but he disappeared into that character and truly made it his own.

Heat is another certified banger that just gets better with age, and it's arguable he, somehow, stole the show from De Niro and Pacino despite being a side character in that story.

RIP Val Kilmer.

Re: Val Kilmer gone

Val Kilmer got robbed of an Oscar not once but twice. His performances in the Doors and Tombstone were nothing short of remarkable. I'll always remember him as Batman. Director Joel Schumacher said Val was a pain in the ass to work with. But he had other good roles. ThunderHeart, the Saint, Willow, Heat and so many more. I remember seeing him at convention in Indiana years ago. His manager came out and addressed the line before getting started, saying that Val was nervous about meeting his fans and was kind of shocked he had a large fanbase.

HBO and Warner Bros. really need to do right by him and the late Joel Schumacher and release the Directors cut of Batman Forever.

Re: Val Kilmer gone

Was he the best Batman?
No.
Was he better than Clooney?
God yes!
He will be missed.

I believe HBO and Warner Bros. should give us the director’s cut of Batman Forever on the big screen.

It's definitely not the greatest Batman movie ever made for sure, but it had its charm.

It deserves a full, immersive theatrical experience, not a confined 4:3 view on HBO Max.

Thank you. :hq:

Re: Val Kilmer gone

By many accounts not the easiest man to work with, but you can see the talent, particularly in movies that gave him plenty to work with like Heat and Tombstone.

I know that Tombstone was something of a circus of a production, but he elevated that movie, an absolutely iconic performance.
