Long capes

So let's talk about this:
For me a superheroine's cape has to be long, at least to her knees, better to her ankles. And during sex scenes she should wear it too. A long cape symbolizes strength for me.

But I got the feeling, that in modern erotic superheroine films, there are just very short capes or even superheroines which are used to wear capes, like batgirl and supergirl, don't wear capes any longer.

If there is a movie, where I love the cape, like in Lee Carl's Dark Maiden, the heroine is ripped of it when things starting to get sexual. It would be wonderful, if there will be some films in future, where heroines wear longer capes, maybe there would be a sex scene, with the heroine stripped of her uniform, after it get back the cape and the boots and then ... you know.

So what do you think: longer or shorter capes? On during sex scenes or not? Nudity except boots and cape?

For me personally, I like the shorter cape.

I want to see Batgirl's ass

The one thing I could see with the long cape as being used as a away to capture the heroine by wrapping her in it.

I've only written one heroine with a cape. I'm guilty of leaving it off on my Batgirl fanfic. I'm not technically anti-cape, but overall I pefer the look of a heroine without a cape. I think a cape covers up too much fine feminine flesh and curves.

But your post has made me think. I might try my hand at some caped heroines in the future.

Japanese producer GIGA uses long capes often. Often they're ripped off, but sometimes not. At least a couple of times the heroine ended up without her dress/leotard but still in cape, boots, and gloves.
One of their popular characters is deliberately naked except for boots, gloves, mask, and sometimes a long scarf. I know a scarf isn't a cape but for some people it's a pleasing alternative.
They get into crazy, weird, disturbing stuff.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of long capes; I prefer heroines without capes, or with shorter capes -- too short and too wide, more like wings; and when they're long, I like them narrow on the shoulders more than truly enveloping capes. And removing the cape can be like removing the mask, symbolic of (or even literally) losing her power.
But there is something wonderful about when a long cape moves to reveal what's underneath, or when a long cape is used as a restraint.

Yeah, but the giga videos are often to violent for me and I don't like the setting of monsters and tentacles... But I remember the movie "Red rose of Letizia" from this studio, were the heroine gave a guy a handjob with her cape, one of the best scenes I've ever seen :D

I like the settings of Primal, The Rye or Uninvited the most, but they nearly never use long capes. Hard to have such a specific fetish :D

For me, I like a cape just above the ass so I can see it and still believe the cape is usable for flying.

Very good topic to address.

As Spock once said, "Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations." We love capes! What we don't love is the costumes of the heroines being obscured, as mentioned previously. Spandex is there to be seen, not covered. But all kinds of permutations are fair game.

We have everything from several long capes (Arctica, Poderosa) to several short capes (Jinniyya, Arogya) to several no capes (Lunessa, Vendetta).
We also have a cloak of teleportation (Etherea), colorful rainbow strips of cellophane (Spectrina), insect wings (Devorra), and a cape so long it serves as a quasi-burqa (Darbouka) but we have her sweep it aside when she's fighting so we can see more of the costume underneath.

It's all good!

P.S. Very soon we're going to post an outtake on our Youtube channel from the upcoming Episode 16 where the cape got in Poderosa's way in the middle of an assertive power stance. Christina, being the consummate professional that she is, immediately realized it and we stopped the take. But it'll be immortalized in blooperland.

Good topic!

Actually, I would agree the longer capes are more "old school" hehe, but they definitely look great as symbols of strength especially when you're dealing with the classic style of costumes.
I think the reason that a lot of producers don't use them, myself included, is:
1) The shorter capes do show off the "bare assets" a little better if you get my drift
but more technically,
2) they are UNWIELDLY to deal with in shooting situations. They get in the way of just about any action scene you can imagine, they somehow always wind up wrapped around an actresses face at the most inopportune times, or a body part for that matter, and generally unless you're doing a photoshoot or a video where the actress is static most of the time, they are just really cumbersome to deal with.

So, on the Batman TV series, if you look at a lot of the action stills, they put snaps to on the back of the leotards in strategic places to keep their capes from getting in the way during filming (And I assume to keep their shape during photo sessions.) Gravity is a bitch and especially when you're going for a certain look, a long cape is heavy and many times just winds up drooping around the actor/actress....but I digress.

So, as producers, we could go through the work of putting velcro on the cape and the costume to keep it all in place. For me, I usually would forget until it was time to shoot the next video and then it would be too late and I would wind up opting for the shorter cape, which no one seemed to mind.

There you have it, my 2 cents (more like 22 dollars) worth of opinion and information about long capes.
In closing, I agree, I think the long capes are wonderful! They just need extra attention to play nice during production.

Another point against capes. Sorta. This is more an issue in drawn or rendered art, but LONG HAIR that covers the cape. If the cape isn't seen, why wear it?

Example that gave me this thought:

You're right, DonShip, that's outrageous. What mom would have such long hair? :) Moms get practical cuts!

DonShip - big fan of Johnny Haradrim's very stylized and sexy art. Not sure why he hasn't published a comic in all this time (or maybe I missed something).

Anyway, here's the Poderosa blooper - perfectly demonstrating the hazards of long capes.

I remember the original Superman: The Movie production had a room full of capes optimized for different things.
And these days capes are often done digitally.
But there is something wonderful about them when you capture them moving and draping just right.
Who knows, maybe someone who commissions customs will call for a long cape and put it to good use.

I'm not a big fan of long capes except when they cling to the shapely bottom of superheroines in distress, but generally, even in writing some scenes, one has to account for them and manage their tendency to get in the way when visualizing how things are going.

I did very much enjoy the short arc in the Supergirl tv show where Mon-El taught Kara how to turn a long cape into either a weapon or a defensive tool. Brilliant I thought!

Yes, at some point they are surely debilitating in doing action scenes I guess. But I just saw a movie snippet on heroinemovies, where the actress, dressed as supergirl with a long cape turned a wheel, so it's possible to fight with it ;) you can even use it as a weapon or a shield or whatever, there are surely ways.

For me personally the point "a long cape covers to much of the heroines body" is not true, because if she's naked except the cape and maybe some boots, gloves, belt etc, I can see her bare boobs and vagina and much skin. For me THIS is the ultimate turnon. Tropic City Heroines made a video decades ago with Stacey Foxxx as batgirl and she was wearing a long yellow cape, overknee boots, gloves and a belt, which was extremely earth shackering for me, although the acting and setup was really bad and she was blowing a plastic cock from a fat guy, which killed it for me.

In the end, a short cape at a heroine more looks cheesy to me and maybe not worth of a powerful woman, but that's just my opinion and I'm obviously in the minority :D
