Give them a chance. They can always do worse.
Shatner might get to direct another one.

As bad as Star Trek V was, it was stillbetter than Discovery or the Abrams films.
But Star Trek is really better suited to tv rather than movies

You raise an interesting point in regard to Star Trek being better suited to television rather than film. I hope some day we get a new Star Trek series that is on par with Star Trek the Next Generation. I don't intend to debate this with you, I am just interested in your take: what in particular did you not like about the Abrams Trek films?

I find the latest Star Trek "Strange New Worlds" to be an excellent series. It really harkens back to the original series and I love that its not in an episodic format like "Discovery" and "Picard" are. You can watch episodes out of sequence and not lose anything just like the original series was. Very fun show to watch and in my opinion the best thing to happen to Star Trek since TNG.

3 main reasons:
Star Trek was known as the thinking person science fiction, Abrams put special effects and basic plot over complex story. , to attract his type of audience
I hate retcons
Most of the actors were not good
