What's the 2nd column on a page for?

Just an ad graphic and 'Tweets by HeroineForum.'
And making it impossible to get column one (main forum) the width I want it at.

I see that at the top, not the side. What browser/device are you using. The ad runs across the top for me.

Using Firefox on Macbook.
I see an ad on top as well. Altho sometimes I don't see any ads on a page.
If my window width is about 75% or less of screen width, I only have one column, the main forum column.
If my window width is over 75% of screen width, I get two columns. With 2nd column having another more square ad, and a text link that says 'Tweets by Heroineforum.' So I can never get the main left side column as wide as I would like. Ergo why I'm complaining.
Today I just noticed when I don't have 2nd column, the square ad and text link 'Tweets by Heroineforum' is at bottom of page.
