So, I am planning on starting my own superheroine production after paying thousand if not tens of thousands of dollars to make custom, custom is great, but they are probably more on the expensive side and it don't do that much for me for the money that I pay, and recently I have had a few bad custom that don't really get to my point after paying a few hundred dollars and started to think if I am going to pay a thousand buck for someone to make a movie how I would like to make, why don't I start my own production, that way, at least I get maximum control on all aspect and I can share it here so it alleviate the cost, I mean, how hard can it be ?? (famous last word for Jeremy Clarkson on the old Top Gear)
It turns out it's a bit harder than I thought. So, I have 3 issues here I wanted some advice from anyone, but preferably the producer here.
1.) Camera, I know absolutely zero, zilch on camera, was planning to use my Samsung Galaxy S23 to shoot the movie, but it turns out the quality is quite crappy indoor when that is not really well lit. I have asked around some local facebook movie group, some people told me it's the lighting that's the issue, some people told me it's because of some lens I never heard of. So my question is, should I just get more light and keep using my Samsung S23? Or should I get a better Camera? Or should I do both?.
2.) Actress. It's quite hard to find model who are willing to do nude here, unlike in the US or UK, things are more conservative here, and many people see posing nude as some sort of taboo, and the government law here don't help because, technically, we can't produce porn here as it's illegal, I am planning on some R rated stuff (so I am planning on doing nudity without hardcore sex, sort of like HM use to do it), anyway, I tried to look for model in the adult entertainment industry, places like performers for bucks party, stripper and etc. It's very expensive and is quite hard to ask, and so far, after hiring 6 or 7 strippers, only 1 show interest, so I wonder where do production find their talent? Should I try some sleezy modelling site like Model Mayham? Or is there a way to do this?
3.) Story, while I do write short brief of a story for the custom I made, I never wrote the full thing, it's just snippet of things that I want and usually the production people are making them into a story. I mean, it wouldn't make sense to just start by having the heroine touching herself and go on for the rest of the movie.......I can write some basic stuff, like background and such, but I get blocked when I want to go deeper into the story to make it interesting. So, my question is, is the storyline important? Or if this is just a bridge that don't need to be good, and people are going to just enjoy the heroine get spanked in her pantyhose or things like that, stuff that I would write when I am commissioning a custom?
I know this is a long-winded post, but any help would be nice.
Best regard
Spike
I get the appeal from afar that becoming a director/producer of something you are into seems like a good idea - especially if you have actually spent 10,000+ on customs BUT the sheer amount of things you'd need to do to actually produce good results requires an ungodly amount of enthusiasm, despite massive setbacks.
No one is going to be able to give you good advice here (even if they could and the only people qualified to do that would be producers, not the community in general) because you haven't explained enough about your intentions and what you are looking to get out of it. What do you want your films to look like (Rye? Ultraheroix? TBFE?)? Where are you based? (cant give you advice on where to find talent if no one has any clue where you even have to look).
Story does matter - if thats your goal. Plenty of clip producers get an audience and get away with it just being fetish with no story. Are those the kinds of films that YOU like? Is that the kind of content YOU want to produce?
You also NEED to consider your motivation. Are you doing this cause you think you'll enjoy your films more than customs? Cause - it's kind of hard to get off on your own supply. When I watch my own films - I remember how poorly a day went, how the costume didn't fit right, how the actors didn't want to be there, how there wasnt enough time to film the ending properly, how I fucked up by missing an angle of a shot, how the editing could have been tighter etc. Turning a passion into a career is a fast way to kill the high you get from the thing you desire. So are you motivated by making money? Or enjoying the film you make? Cause, especially for a newcomer, you'll probably lose money. And you definitely won't enjoy watching your film from the audience perspective after you have made it
Are you someone who can handle criticism? Cause this audience will provide a lot of it. If you historically dont have thick skin, you won't be spared when releasing a film to this audience. Do you have a concrete idea on how to sell and deliver digital products? Make sure you have that pipeline secured so you arent trying to figure it out after the fact. Most clip stores TOS are not in compliancy with the content this genre makes (chloroform, beatdowns, rape, etc)
Last thoughts - if you know nothing about cameras - be prepared for everything to look like shit. Tons of YouTube videos online can educate you on how to film something and make it look good. The only way to actually get good at filming stuff - is to film it. And you shouldn't practice while trying to make a fetish film. I historically always have learned my gear and tested it out by doing stuff like filming my dogs running around the house. Or convincing one of my friends to go around the city as I use the camera to film our activities together. You should never be figuring out how a camera looks during your shoot. Every minute on a set cost money - don't pay your talent to watch you struggle with the gear you don't know how to use
Thanks, let me start by saying, I enjoy your movie a lot, personally not a big fan of hard core sex person, otherwise if you are doing sofecore lesbian stuff, give me a holler because you may just solve my issue here lol........
My intention to be frank is more or less just I don't want to tell people what to do and then pay absurd amount of money and not getting what I wanted done, there were a few good producer out there, but I am not too sure is that because of the communication issue or what, lately most of my custom don't really go my way, producer changing the script, actresses, and in one occasion it simply not what I ordered (I have a certain taste on superheroine backside and wanted it to be highlighted and a costume swap but let just say I didn't get that with the last custom) Some of those change I concede is necessary, for example if you wear tight skirt you won't be kicking as high, that's understandable, then you have changes that I just think it's uncalled for and they said they have to change it because of the script, it may be how they see it, but I am just not seeing that way, and I am the one that pay for the commission.
Anyway, what I was planning to do here is not trying to go commercial and sell my stuff or even earn money from it, I just want to make a movie that I like the way I like it, instead of paying $600-$1000 to someone and get a completely different product REPEATEDLY.....I have 4 or 5 busted custom that I wish they just say they can't do it so I don't spend my money...
I am based in Sydney Australia, but I travel between New Zealand (I am a NZder) I am not sure what the aesthetic is going to be look like, honestly, I am not at this stage yet, I just have an idea at the moment and had a go at it with minimum effort (not counting hiring the stripper) I may not actually proceed with this idea, it quite depends on how hard and how much money I need to put in, I mean, I am not a gold mine, there is a upper limit I can spare. Maybe a couple of grand. That's about it. I mean if there is a local producer who can get what I wanted and get maybe 80% how I wanted, I probably will go with him/her instead of starting my production.
As for storyline, that's one of the issue I am struggling with, I think you are right, I don't think anyone, including me, will enjoy a film that just go with the fetish from the get go, I do think storyline is important, but I just don't know how to start, I tried to sit down and write a short story a week ago, and the furthest it goes is the superheroine and the bad girl face to face and ended up defeating her, that's it, the problem I have is I have a set of things I want the bad girl to do, but I can't put it in a way that it will smoothly go from one to another, when I was doing custom, all the producer need is a list of element I wanted to do and they wrote a sequence of which the bad girl is doing it to the heroine, I have the element in my head, but I cannot put it together in a storyline. That's my major issue with storyline.
As for motivation, as I said, I am not looking for this to go commercial, as in having a store and selling them online, maybe I will share it with people who also interested the same thing I am interested in, that's it, if it went very well and I very much like the product, I may sell it online thru C4S or something, but that's too far in the future. And I completely agree with you can never get off on your own product. Because most excitement people get is the imagination, you imagine how the story goes and how it get there, but if you are the one that shoot the story, that imagination is gone because you know how it goes. But balance that with the money I spend on custom and not getting what I really wanted, that I think bumped me harder than losing that imagination bit.
As for criticism, I don't think I am going to share this publicly, I may shoot a movie twice a year or something like that and being commercial is a thing for me is what happens afterward. But I do think I take criticism well, but then I do like to argue a lot, most likely because I am a barrister, and to tell you the truth, that's probably why it's so hard for me to get a custom done....
And finally for actress, unlike in the US, there are no porn actress here in Oz, there are, but they work overseas because the government don't allow porn with heavy fetish element in them (Things like golden shower, forced sex and BDSM), which mean we don't have a platform for porn actress here, I tried to recruit cosplayer in a forum once and get banned for asking them, as I explained before, I tried to go recruit stripper, topless waitress and so on but that's a very long road to grind. To a point I am thinking it would much easier to just ship American or European actress to shoot here or I go to America or UK to shoot a scene. I don't really know how actresses are recruited, there are actor panel here, but they don't do what we are doing here. So if you can give me some insight on how to connect with people in the business, I mean, I need to somehow know whether or not getting stripper and topless waitress is the right way to go, or should I just go to the UK or US and shoot it there?
Anyway, thanks for your reply
