Robert Downey is coming back to the MCU to play DR Doom
I think this is a big mistake for him and the Producers
Downey should be working on other projects, I still want another Sherlock Holmes Movies
And people are going to compare him to the earlier role.
I thought Julian McMahon was the only good thing in the earlier FF Fiasco. Bring him back or get someone else

So many other actors that can do villains so much better. But how do you pass up like $80 mil.

Disney is going with what worked in the past. They didn't believe in him when he first did Ironman, but they've made a fortune since and his bad boy days; problems are long in the past unlike some other recent superhero movie actors.

A lot of actors relish the thought of playing the villain, having that meaty anti-hero/villain material to play and maybe chew the scenery. In most of those Batman films, it seems like the role of the Joker is the more sought-after prize than Batman. Downey has played the hero quite often recently; I am sure he is champing at the bit to play something different. Most actors get into acting to play a variety of roles, I am sure Downey playing Dr. Doom will be a pleasant change of pace for him, and yeah, the money is nothing to sneeze at.

I think it's bold. For a quarter of the cash you could get probably anybody, I mean it's not going to be a demanding role in itself, most of it will be CGI of a guy in a suit, it's practically voiceover. It's a restatement of their faith in the MCU which they have needed because the unavoidable perception is that (with the number of TV shows) things have been scaling down in scope and vision. Which they haven't, the money is still being spent, it just feels weaksauce compared to the franchise peak.
Doctor Doom is an iconic character even if a lot of people don't know that much about him. He's the top Marvel villain that we haven't seen yet. And RDJ is the most iconic actor in the superhero genre.
I think it's an extremely clever move and it's probably the only casting decision that could make me genuinely interested in the project.
