I remember Linda Lavin from the sitcom "Alice". They don't do that anymore, do they, build sitcoms around established stars.

No, those days are long gone unfortunately.

I liked the show. RIP Linda Lavin.

RIP for sure. I literally wanted to eat at Mel's Diner as a kid. I think '2 Broke Girls' tried to recapture that magic for the milliennial generation,
and in a way, it did.

I think what recommends Alice to us is not just that it's from the same time period (70s/80s) as our SHIP origins, but that it dovetailed nicely
with the cultural messages of the time that we imbibed.

Just like Wonder Woman, Batgirl, Catwoman, Princess Leia, Mrs Peel, Lt Uhura, Bionic Woman and Isis (but not in costume of course) that whole series of "attractive single woman makes it on her own despite the snarky male chauvinist co-workers" shows [That Girl, Mary Tyler Moore, Alice, Police Woman, Mod Squad, and many more] inculcated in us a bit of the second-wave feminism and made us respect the powerful and beautiful women both on screen and in our lives.

You can tell me to stow it, but then again, you can kiss my grits! :)

RIP Linda Lavin. A true legend on stage and screen. I’ll always remember her as Alice Hyatt, strong, talented, and unforgettable.
