Jack McNaughton RIP

I just found out that Jack McNaughton, aka Shakeshift of Dawnstar Productions, died last October. Many forum members will be familiar with Jack's work over the years, his high production values, great custom costuming and some lovely ladies playing some of our favorite heroines. I had noticed for a while that there hadn't been a peep out of Jack in quite a while either here or in other groups he belonged to. A quick search found his obituary. RIP Jack and thanks for the memories.

Wow I had no idea :( I met Jack many times at various FetCons and such, he did post here pretty often. Did a lot of work for Maidens in Mayhem and their superheroine site.

Sad news. Thanks @drh1966 for updating us.

I had lost touch with Jack (shakeshift) over the years, and am very sad to hear this. Jack and I worked together, in person, many times - and we downed many a pint of ale together (too many). He was a very creative guy, hell of a writer and a friend back in the day. RIP, Shakeshift. He wrote and photographed a lot of stuff for me throughout the years and we collaborated on some cool projects. Sad news.

Thank you so much for alerting us, @drh1966! This is terrible news. I worked with him a number of times over the years on customs and collaborations on scripts. I agree with all the sentiments here. Great dude, standup guy, a great mind for SHIP and a terrific writer. He really understood the genre and was exceptional at training new talent. He always took that very seriously and he was able to get quality performances out of any actress he worked with, regardless of what talent level they started with. I hadn't heard from him in a while and I reached out but didn't get a reply. Now I know why. RIP to one of the greatest to ever do it!

Didn't realize who "Jack McNaughton" was at first, so I didn't check this thread until now.
Very sorry to hear of Shakeshift's passing. He did some great SHIP work and was seminal in the genre, plus had a rapport with some
fantastic actresses.

But I guess here's something people haven't thought of yet. Where are his productions best viewed and accessed, at this point?
I know there's a store on C4S "Superheroine Adventures by Dawnstar" which is essentially his store, correct? (or am I wrong)
And it does seem that he wrote and directed a bunch of SHIP videos in the stores of both Vivian Ireene Pierce and Jennifer Blaze.
Where else are his productions stored or available? (Does he have some videos amongst League of Amazing Women, too?)
Might be useful to have an ultimate guide to Shakeshift's monumental output.

Also a reminder to everyone to please take care of yourselves. We all want to hopefully follow this genre for more decades to come.
(I personally want to continue producing for another ten years if possible). Let's make and enjoy great superheroine videos in Shakeshift's honor!

I know he did work with League of Amazing Women many years ago. And you can find some of his work in the stores of the models he worked with like Vivian and Jennifer. But I believe his own stuff can only be found at Dawnstar Productions.

Yeah he had a host of models in that Mid Atlantic area that worked with him exclusively. And then he stopped producing, they all basically disappeared. He definitely had a unique style!

I've only just learnt of this sad news. Jack was an early influence on my thinking in the SHIP genre. He was a highly imaginative and natural writer who was second to none in this genre. Although I never kept copies of any SHIP stories, I still remember a couple of Jack's tales fondly. "Shakeshift" was a stamp of quality; one knew the writing would be good. I briefly experimented with writing for Vesta's site, the League of Amazing Women, which Jack was involved with at the time. Of his own volition, he wrote a flattering appraisal of my efforts, despite my subpar art. I would have liked to have collaborated with him, but it wasn't to be. Rest in peace, Jack.
