Re: Masters of the Universe: Revelation
Isn't that true of virtually every character who has some kind of magical or supernatural power? Superman, the Power Rangers, Thor, etc He-Man isn't my favorite kind of character. He evolved into being a blend between Conan and Superman, but more the latter than the former: basically, this unbeatab...

Re: Masters of the Universe: Revelation
I guess I can't speak too much to what was in the trailers or the marketing campaign, I didn't really know the show was even happening until it popped up in my Netflix feed. Perhaps you're right. About branding about all I can say is that I noticed the absence of "He-Man" from the show's t...

Re: Superdeep (2020, Russia) - Shudder
To clarify for my part (because I don't want people writing long responses to me that they don't realize are not being read): beyond identifying who's who for purposes of curating my forum experience, I for one am not interested in further "political" argument on this thread or any other.

I may not be He-Man's biggest fan, or really a fan of him AT ALL, but to bring his series back from the dead today essentially without him feels like a big NO NO... While I can see the argument, the branding was pretty specifically not "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe." It's not li...

The shoe doesn't fit at all. Sure. You just wanted a very *specific* answer so that you had the means to define me. I simply wanted a straight answer. I can't say I was entirely surprised by what it turned out to be, but if you're uncomfortable with how I view you in light of it: oh well. I didn't ...

Regardless of ones opinion on 'fan disservice' or whether or not they find characters like Aloy attractive or hideous... To watch "This is Gus" all you have to do is go to CWTV and stream it for free, Not in Canada, more's the pity. I really should invest in a VPN. I found the script online, however: actual script quotes . . . concepts . . . In context pretty much everything you list here looks perfectly in...

Deconstruction could work the only problem is the people currently doing deconstruction plots are still stuck in 1990. The things being deconstructed are already stripped to the bone. Yeah, that might be part of it. Or stuck in the Oughties, maybe, or the source material is just from that time. It'...

There are only three possible approaches to modern mainstream superhero-ing: Deconstruction (sex/violence) [REDACTED] and Camp (humor/retro). For my part, what I mean by "deconstruction" is "the story is metacommentary on the genre as much as it is a story in its own right." The...

Okay. For ideological reasons that we can most politely say "diverge," we are mostly agreed on the correctness of "fuck Twitter." (In principle but not yet in practice, in my case, admittedly.) Still. Social media does have its upside. Might be diverting to talk a bit about that....

The characters involved can of course regrow teeth, bones, and organs on-demand with enough time and assistance: this was made very obvious in the first few episodes, I don't feel like that's a convincing objection so much as it's just part of the fictional world that you will either accept or not....
