Today is a special day!
Today, on Septemper 3rd, the filming for season 2 of Batwoman has begun!

And it's time to open a NEW topic on the forum for season 2.
Season 1 discussions can be found here:
viewtopic.php?f=63&t=32768
-
After the pandemic stopped the filming at the end of season 1 in mid-march and thereby cut the season short (20 episodes instead of 22)....the cameras are finally rolling again. :w00t:
So a break of nearly 6 months comes to an end. Normally season 2 would have started next month, but that was of course changed as well as they just couldn't film in the last months.
With the start of the filming we will get finally some more info on season 2 as it was very quiet on that front in the last weeks.

And the Batwoman panel on the 2nd DC Fandome is just 9 days away (September 12)!
It has 40 minutes and should bring some interesting news for sure! Especially I'm curious to see Javicia Leslie and her new Batwoman costume.
So, the next weeks should get really interesting when it comes to Batwoman news! :-)

Season 2 will start on *EDIT* January 17 (always on sundays)

Before the Batwoman Panel on the DC Fandome will be available in barely 34 hours from now…
https://schedule.dcfandome.com/e/5f343a ... 0017244a14

….with some major news….there are already some news to post before!

Safiyah has been casted for the show!
https://deadline.com/2020/09/batwoman-s ... 234574512/

In the show it seems that Alice is her main enemy. In the comics Kate Kane/Batwoman has a complicated relationsship with her…but as Kate isn’t around anymore (at least for a while until she comes back ) it seems that Alice will have to face her. Safiyah was already mentioned on some occasions in season 1, will be interesting to see what her goal is in the TV show.
I don’t know the actress so far, but I am looking forward to see her on screen.

One week has passed since they had started shooting season 2.
And of course some pictures show up on social media.
Here are my two favorites from the last days:

Alice is back in action!

Meagan Tandy has posted this picture:

I wonder how her role will change in season 2….

On sunday I will make a big post about season 2 of Batwoman as there should be some juicy news to post about from saturday

The 2nd DC Fandome was started yesterday and is still available right now for the next 10 hours.
I was very excited about the Batwoman panel on the DC Fandome in August.
Then it was delayed 3 weeks to the new date. Ok, well, 3 more weeks to wait, no biggie. I hoped that they would produce some promo material in the meantime......

Image
Image

I mean the panel was interesting and fun to watch.....BUT....if you have such a panel with a good 40 minutes runtime....you should present SOMETHING at the very end.
A 30 second teaser, a poster ...or at least just one promo image for season 2!
All the talk was nice and interesting....but....no "real" news about season 2 :-(
-
Caroline Dries explained that there would be two major topics in season 2:
1) Watching Ryan Wilder grow into the role of Batwoman with her background as she wasn't treated well by the system
2) Kate's disappearance and how it affects everybody differently.

Also it was mentioned that Ryan Wilders batwoman suit will be different or "evolves" differently (from Kates version) during the season so it would be fitting to her persona.
Some more details can be found here:
https://tvline.com/2020/09/12/batwoman- ... -reaction/

These "mini-reveals" are interesting, but not really thrilling as they were already mentioned in the past or are predictable developments that follow aspects you already know about.

-
I watched a lot of panels from other shows as well, at least Batwoman is in good company.
The only panel with some exciting reveals was the Titans panel. And these reveals were even already in the shorter version that was presented 3 weeks ago....

Actually the "InsiderVerse" was nearly more interesting as there a lot of interesting videos.
I "saved" a lot of them to watch on a later date. ;-)
Well, as the filming is running now for 10 days I hope we will get some news or promo material very soon. It is needed!
I hope for a tiny teaser in early october and a longer season trailer in November.
Some promo pictures and posters should also pop up in the next weeks/months.

New casting news for season 2:

A henchwoman named Whisper and a Zen gardner named Ocean have recurring roles in season 2!

Image

https://deadline.com/2020/09/batwoman-l ... 234583200/

Well, I have seen Jessica Jones but I don't remember Leah Gibsons role.
She certainly looks like she could be a fine henchwoman!
I thought that I would know Nathan Owens from Black Lightning but I actually confused him with Jordan Calloway.
His role description is...well....quite bizarre....for my taste:
A former soldier who is now a Zen gardner(!) named Ocean???
Sounds like he really was traumatised a LOT in his former career.
Looking forward to find out more about their roles!

Isn't the word 'AMBULANCE' the important bit rather than having GOTHAM CITY in letters twice as big on the side of the ambulance?
Just saying...

Thanks for the pics. I really wonder how they are gonna pull this off though without it ending up like a dogs breakfast

Well, seems that GOTHAM CITY is a very proud city ;)

I'm not completely hyped right now, due to lack of trailers or teasers AND promo pictures (of the new costume)...so far.
But I am certain that they can (even) improve the show with this massive change.
I guess there were nearly no fans on this site of Ruby Rose, so she won't be missed by many here.
And I am still certain that Kate Kane will return late in season 2, then with a freshly casted actress that should easily be more attractive to the (male) audience.
Also I think that Javicia Leslie will look really good in costume and mask!

Ruby Rose.....like the best of both worlds...a hot female body but the face of a Justin Bieber...cute!!
I will actually miss her, I think she was an awesome Kate and BW...it is just a bummer that now we will never have the chance for an onscreen conversation between her and MB's Supergirl that could have really provided some sexually tense dialogue.

I can't make up my mind about RR - as BW she has impact but as Tallyho says, out of the suit she's a little underwhelming but perhaps it's the perfect disguise then?!

At any rate - for me it's Alice who is the big draw. She's written well and made to be dangerous, cruel, vulnerable, broken and unpredictable! And on top of that she's played by someone who relishes the job by the looks! More Alice por favor!!

I liked Ruby Rose and thought she was perfect for the role. I was sad to see her decide against continuing. I'm not sure how the writers will make things work since Kate was the lynchpin for a lot of the characters surrounding her and their motivations. It'll be hard not to force things for the writers but I'm hopeful they do a good job. Just a few months to go to see if they did.

I felt Ruby was a little weak at the start but really grew into the role in the later episodes. Would definitely be strange to not see her in the suit, and wondering how they'd rationalise the new BW especially since the main antagonist has such a close connection to Kate Kane.

Finally we can see how Javicia Leslie would look as the new Batwoman aka Ryan Wilder!
As the photographer mentioned these pictures are from episode 2 or 3 of the new season.
And well, and from what we can see....it seems very much like she has the same costume as Ruby Rose aka Kate Kane had.
Well, for starters at least....
At the DC Fandome Caroline Dries mentioned that her costume would evolve during the season to really fit Ryan Wilders character.
Here are my favorite 4 pictures:

As you can see it seems that the new Batwoman now may use a Batmobile instead of the motorcycle that Kate used in season 1!
And it looks like the car will get a CGI treatment for the final look. Hard to say how it will look in the end right now.

I hope that we get some official promo images really soon!

Glad they quickly released an official picture after these set photos.
And the final confirmation that she will have her "own" costume as the season goes on.

If you compare it with the cowl that Ruby Rose wore, there are only small differences.
Javicia's nose is even more covered by it and seemingly they don't use the black paint around her eyes.
I'm not 100% sure, but it looks like there is a chin strap on that cowl!
Looking forward to an official promo poster for season 2 with her!

I think a good idea for this show to solve their diversity issue would be to do a Batwoman Inc. Instead of one Batwoman there are like 4 of them and each one takes turns (or who is available) to go out and do things. Also so they can cover for each other. Maybe one is the expert fighter, another is a thief/hacker/ another is maybe the front person who talks with the police etc. This way they can have their lesbian, their black girl, their whatever and not put it all on one figure.

You don't want shiny when you are hiding in the shadows.

This isn't Batman TV from 1966 with brightly lit sets and costumes. Most of the current DC shows use dark sets and dark costumes to hide the action and stunt people.

Agreed. As a huge fan of the BW comic(before the writers left when DC said she couldn't get married because she wasn't allowed to be happy), I have literally zero interest in this show because after the first few episodes it was clear they could give two craps about any of her excellent source material, rogues gallery, etc. Now having everything they set up in season 1 basically get derailed by Ruby and hearing the new plot lines just makes it seem like a train wreck waiting to happen, similar to how Supergirl's writing devolved over the course of the show. I'd be more interested at this point if they just did a Batwoman Inc. type story vs. trying to make this a solo Batwoman show because they are so far off the plot and her character it just isn't interesting and they are going to lose viewers/ratings as BW is already a niche character as is, despite her excellent run in the comics many years ago.

So far, nearly nothing is known in terms of plot lines for season 2, besides "What happened to Kate?" "Safiyah appears" and "Ryan Wilder becomes the new Batwoman"´so, how can you know that it will be a "train wreck"?
And yeah, Ruby Rose is gone from the show, but Kate Kane is only missing.....and she will be back in season 2, mark my words.

The Batwoman show (and Riverdale) have paused production due to delays in covid-19 tests: :evilmad:
https://variety.com/2020/tv/news/riverd ... 234787386/

Also Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl are delayed by that as they should have started filming this week....
-

I hope they can get this sorted out quickly and increase the numbers of tests they can do each day.
Or these production might get their own facility for testing. That must be possible.

The good news is that a really cool villain was casted for season 2!
The knife-wielding Victor Zsasz who already appeared in the Gotham TV show and in the Birds of Prey movie, will be facing Batwoman! :-)
I really like the crazy character, who may not be an "A-league" villain (like Joker or Riddler), but certainly is a "B+ league"-villain.
Alex Morf, the actor who will play him, was actually on the Gotham TV show...but not as Victor Zsasz.

Here is the character description:
A charismatic, skilled hitman with high, unpredictable energy. He proudly carves tally marks onto his skin for every victim he kills.

I feel like CW shows want to be a bit dowdy, but partly the trend for matte outfits in recent stuff is down to greenscreen, and avoiding reflecting the camera crew etc. "The Mandalorian" uses a giant TV screen instead of a greenscreen allowing them to have very shiny characters, and they do. Hopefully this means more shinyness in future.

For what it's worth, I am all for a shiny costume. After all, this is pure fantasy. There are plenty of vigilante movies with characters wearing "realistic" outfits. The concept of the superheroine, for me, is fantasy. One aspect of an effective superheroine fantasy is a shiny superheroine outfit that adds to the attractiveness of the superheroine. I leave the lack of shiny and sexy outfits to the vigilante movies.
I suppose if reality was the goal, a superheroine would drive a humdrum vehicle (with weapons and other gadgets hidden within) and not some sort of Batcycle or Batmobile. They would probably wear the most average of outfits to avoid detection. And they probably would not supermodels either.

To quote Danny Torrance, "Shine on [sexy superheroine]. You shine on."

If you really need a "realistic" excuse for a shiny outfit, check out the reasoning for painting a WW2 night fighter gloss black.
"Afterwards, P-61s were painted gloss black which became the Black Widow's trademark. Three paint schemes were tested which were olive drab with a flat black underside, all flat black and gloss black. During searchlight tests, when the olive drab and flat black painted aircraft passed the searchlight beams, they were easily detected. However, when the gloss black aircraft flew across the beam it was nearly invisible."
http://www.aviation-history.com/northrop/p61.html
Now I just need to find a justification for really high heels.

I don't think you can compare paínt schemes on air planes which are illuminated by searchlights to superhero costumes as it's all about visibility from miles away (air planes).
If you are some meters away from a shiny costume at night...I suppose it should just be more visible compared to a none-shiny.
And if you want a justification for really high heels....just do the "Nolan". He (normally) is always in for realism in his movies. His brother Jonathan convinced him to have Catwoman in TDKR.
But for some reason they gave a sneaky cat burglar ....really high stiletto heels.... on her boots. Not "exactly" realistic or logic. And that reason is pretty obvious ;)
You won't find a justification besides "it's looking awesome". It depends on the end result you wanna have.

DAMN!
I am (positively) surprised!
Love these new shiny, smooth panels on her costume! Very sexy
Also the red gauntlets are awesome. Thanks god the cowl didn't get smaller/less concealing like I feared.
The cowl has a chin strap again!
And it surely doesn't hurt that Javicia has bigger twins than Ruby....

There are amazing cosplayers out there that have 10 times better costumes than any fetish video producers... and sometimes even better ones than in the movies or TV shows.

But back on the topic:
What don't you like about the costume? It looks really good in my opinion and certainly (even) better than the versions from season 1.
Javicia fills it out better in terms of boobs and muscles.

I was never a Barwoman fan, but this girl looks like a CosPlayer
:giggle:
The girl looks like a cosplayer? Interesting wording..... :hmmm:
There are amazing cosplayers out there that have 10 times better costumes than any fetish video producers... and sometimes even better ones than in the movies or TV shows.

But back on the topic:
What don't you like about the costume? It looks really good in my opinion and certainly (even) better than the versions from season 1.
Javicia fills it out better in terms of boobs and muscles.
She look like a kid playing superheroine not an actress playing a superheroine. It's not the costume.

You have a person's whose body fits the part.

Here is an analogy, I could not take Brad Pitt an excellent actor seriously as Achilles because he did not look the part
Same with Craig as Bond he does not look the part

That is pretty elaborate costume, would be pretty challenging to design that yourself and look as good as a cosplayer, now it will be done I am sure, but that is lot of different materials and textures working together to look perfect! I will stick with my shiny catsuit as BW....

I think her face is too rounded, it looks shoe horned into the outfit. Need a lantern jaw for that high necked costume and she hasn't got one.
It just looks... off... to me, anyways.
How strange are the ways of the gods ...........and how cruel.

The costume looks pretty darn good, love the paneling and texture of it, it's 10000X better than the suit from Season 1. Actually looks like an attractive costume without the sort of loose/baggy pants look Ruby's costume had. Much more athletic and streamlined, she looks great in it.

It's officially a hot costume. Of course we'd all like something that's more Underworld-y or Matrix-y but I doubt we're ever going to see that kind of thing on a show like this, so that's about as good as it'll get.

The problem with modern Batfam incarnations is that the suits are basically armour. They lean into the 'knight' part of the style. So it's not likely to ever yield another properly hot costume in a mainstream show or movie.

Wow, a really good, pure view on the costume! Even the cowl is missing…
She looks GREAT in the costume!
And it seems that she doesn't only show her excitement by her smile and gestures
DAMN, this new smooth texture is so sexy

Season 2 is still coming next year, but now we can also say:
....Season 2 is starting next MONTH! ;)

Image

Sounds SOOO much better...

Besides that, the episodes titles for the first 5 episodes were revealed:
Spoiler
2x01 - Whatever Happened to Kate Kane?
2x02 - Prior Criminal History
2x03 - Bat Girl Magic!
2x04 - Fair Skin, Blue Eyes
2x05 - Gore on Canvas
Judging by the titles:
1) Well, hopefully we will get some answers to that....only some....at least.
2) That will certainly be about Ryan Wilders criminal past and how she now wants to leave that behing her
3) A wordplay.... this will be the episode were Ryan gets her own/new batsuit. But why "Girl" instead of "Woman"? I doubt it has anything to do with Batgirl.
4) Sounds like a description of Alice(?)
5) Interesting..... an episode with a horror touch? Perhaps the episode with Victor Zsasz?

*EDIT*

Forgot to post this one, even it has only some seconds of a scene from season 2:

-
I am hoping/expecting that the full trailer for season 2 surfaces within the next 9 days.
Let's see if I am right or not.... :hmmm:
