I only find her sexy in her costume as Dreamer. The producers give lackluster attire for Nia at Catco. If you notice, she wears a lot more makeup as Dreamer than Nia. The ponytail for Nia doesn't complement her face in my opinion. Her character would look better with her hair straight as Nia.

Quite an odd episode with way too many superpowered characters which way too many weird abilities.....but it wrapped out season 5, so that's a good thing.
Also: 2 masked women, quite some peril scenes AND some secret identity issues!
Spoiler
Loved how Lex threaten to tell everyone and that Lena mindsweeped him to protect her secret identity.
So, the episode was quite enjoyable for me.
Spoiler
I hope Supergirl won't be in the Phantom Zone for too long.

I am surprised no one is discussing the one good scene.

Spoiler
SG: "I want you to disable the satelites. You do that and I will give you what you always wanted."

LL: "What's That?"

SG: "Me!"

LL: "Well that is tempting."
Bert

Fast forwarded to the "action" scenes. Just like last season, there is only one way, just one, for Supergirl to encounter physical resistance in a conflict. She is "struck" by a beam/force/wave, flies across a room, hitting something along the way, and lands, somewhat stunned. The only other permitted move is a heat vision duel with some beam/force/wave. This sorry excuse for a fight has been repeated so many times that it's not even a parody of itself anymore, it's just pathetic. Add in the magically appearing weapons and the terrible CGI kryptonite poisoning and you've got yourself some truly, truly dreadful television. And just for good measure, the titular "heroine" is now largely banished from her own show. Again! How this dreck lasted till season six is a mystery for the ages. From the beginning of season four until now there are maybe three good episodes, and even those are a pale shadow of the best from seasons one and two.

^ I didn't say anything against it in my post above.
Just thought he would care much less by now.
I still think that such a flawed Supergirl show is better than none.
Will be interesting to see what some folks think about that topic in some years from now.
Surely there will be a Supergirl in a movie or two....but only in a small(er) role.
Nothing even close compared to a TV show with her.

I will watch season 6 to see how it all goes and ends.
In the next years, I may be doing a re-watch of seasons 1-4.

Well, there is enough to enjoy for me in seasons 1-4. No problemo ;-)
Season 1 and 2 were really enjoyable. Season 3 had Reign.
And even season 4 had it's moments.
SG had her real outfit + no damn bangs.

With the actress being pregnant, I would imagine that they are not going to show a lot of Supergirl doing many physical things.

She wasn't pregnant anymore as she got the baby in late September...before the filming started. But she was then absent until January due to maternity leave.... hard to say how much we see of her in the early episodes, I guess not much. But I am pretty sure they filmed scenes with her for the early episodes as she was back.
Spoiler
As long she is in the phantom zone they can film her without any regulars from the cast.
From wiki:
Filming began on October 13, 2020. It was initially scheduled to begin after Benoist returned from maternity leave, but was later rescheduled to begin on September 28, 2020. However, by September 29, filming was temporarily postponed, because of delays in receiving COVID-19 test results for the cast and crew, before beginning in October. The early filming of the season worked around Benoist's absence until she returned to work in January 2021. Filming is expected to conclude on August 6, 2021.

We have a preview for tomorrow night.

What is the timeframe of events? You don't go to trial overnight. How long is Supergirl in the Phantom Zone? She may be the Phantom Zone for months or over a year if she is still trapped when the jury finds Lex to be guilty.

What happens to the DEO? Clearly he used the DEO for his crimes in season 5. Brainy is also guilty of crimes for helping Lex. Can we really let Brainy off the hook? Brainy broke the law.

Now we have two criminals, who Supergirl refuses to punish, Lena and Brainy. A true superheroine does not make exceptions. Both Lena and Brainy should be in jail.

I honestly think some of the writers on this show are SHIP fans given how little "superheroing" Supergirl ever does. It seems that every season she's constantly depowered, getting beat up, captured, weakened, losing to some B-list villain she would easily handle in the comics without much trouble, etc. It's always her getting her butt kicked for the first 1/2 of the show and then we bring in the help squad to save the day. I mean we had our fair share of awesome perils back in the old Wonder Woman show, but at least Wonder Woman still got to be super. I've always felt like that's the biggest issue with this show, Supergirl is never really "Super" at any point. Main villain shows up, kicks the crap out of her with or without Kryptonite, and then the help squad comes in to do the work.

That's pretty much standard Arrowverse fare for you, i.e. probably 22-23 out of 24 episodes where the hero loses, add some melodrama here and there, then the team emerging triumphant by the last episode.

For SG, I don't mind seeing her losing maybe if they had kept the skirt and reduced the supporting superhero cast to a bare minimum. I'm watching Supergirl after all, and not a superhero team show with SG in it.

I still don't understand why this series is called "Supergirl". She is almost never the main character of an episode. It should have been called "Kara and Alex" or "National City". The first two seasons were good. The third wasn't too bad. But afterwards, it became rubbish. The fifth season was an absolute horror to the point that I dropped out. I would have much preferred a show with a small budget, few characters but much better written. It's the same with DC movies. The bigger the budget, the worse it gets. Some Tv Show like "Power" or "The Boys" don't have large budget but are so much better.

The first season, it was Supergirl doing the fighting and the others were tech support. But the last few, Supergirl does hardly anything. You could write her character out and it wouldn't affect this season.

To be fair, a lot of the show over the last season had to deal with MB pregnancy, which I understand but if she is going to show up on set than she needs better writing to make the most of every scene that she is in. The writer's room seems to be either lazy or out of ideas or overpaid. Either way, I doubt Season 6 will be as bad as Season 5 but that bar is so low that Mr. Fantastic couldn't even limbo under it!!

Hard to get real numbers on that.
I'm sure that "the Boys" has a MUCH bigger budget than Supergirl or any other CW show.
The Boys is financed by Amazon.... so I think that season 1 already had a bigger budget per episode.
And they reportedly increased the budget for season 2....and I'll guess that it will be even bigger in season 3.

As you can see in the promo for episode 2....Supergirl did get rid of these bangs after all!

The show started with so much promise, despite the terrible writing. It was largely undone by a series of unfortunate incidents. The first producer got fired. Melissa (bravely) revealed her physically abusive prior relationship, resulting in an unfortunate but understandable toning down of the violence. Melissa chose to star in a Broadway play, which interfered with the season 4 shooting sched. The new producers went all-in on the team aspect and the ultra-woke aspect. Then Melissa got prego.

At least we will always have the first two and a half seasons.

Now, honestly, wouldn't this look nicer if she was in her skirt, showing off her sweet legs? Those tights are crap! And I won't go on my diatribe about the material selection again...

My 2 cents.

I didn't watch the show until last night and honestly, I thought it was one of the best episodes in a while. Yes, there was a fair amount of scenery chewing and lots of feelings expressed but they were all quite relevant to the characters and didn't feel forced to me so I was pleased with things overall. Lots of hope speeches all around and while I'm usually sick of them, for some reason they came off okay with me last night, especially since they weren't just given by Kara. Everybody got a shot at a hope speech in this episode, Phantom Menaces. So, while I'm late on my opinion, Danorian, I have to say I was pleased with the show.

I do think Lex has run his course in terms of what he can bring to the plot line. He should be phased out. That said, I think Jon Cryer did a fantastic job in the role. He may be the best to ever play Luthor. What do you folks think about that?

Since I've hardly seen any of the show I think anyone else's opinion on this outranks mine by a mile, but from what little I've seen I don't think Jon Cryer is a very good actor. He's both too pantomime and not energetic enough at the same time. Skill aside, I think he was miscast. He doesn't have a lot of charisma, and I don't buy him as an evil genius. Though as I say I have not seen much of his performance so I am fully willing to admit I could be way off. But, having seen what I've seen, I think Smallville's Michael Rosenbaum was much better. He remains my favourite live-action Luthor.

Cryer's version of Lex is closer to the Gene Hackman version with a heavy emphasis on humor. However unlike the movies, they no longer have a writer or consultant to fix the bad or non-existent science. It's like the early Star Trek: The Next Generation where they use buzz words that make no scientific sense.

Cryer's Lex is in search of an audience to appreciate his genius or at least decent competition. That's why the first season episode was so bad withLex appearing alone and the poor fight scene against Supergirl. They can write some funny bits, but not a plot.

I have seen 1st 3 episodes of season 6, they are horrible.
The show is doing a soso job of trying to have Lena Luther
redeemed.
The trial of Lex Luther sucked. Lex both incompetent and stupid,
and we know that Lena and her college friend were fat from dumb.
But, Lex is still showing his sick evil obsession against those from krypton.
Supergirl's scenes, they should have just mentioned her being in the zone and not seeing her.

I do hope that the script writers bring Lex, Lena and their mother from the supergirl show into the Superman and Lois show.

I have only seen the first episode of season 6 Supergirl so I can't really comment on it, but as far as last season went, Jon Cryer's Lex Luthor was the best thing to happen in season 5 in my view, I thought he was awesome. Cryer practically stole the show the tail end of last season, he was performance was one of the few redeeming qualities of that moribund season, one of the few reasons to watch the damn show in my view.

Watched episode 4 earlier today.
Well, it was ok for me. Nothing great, and too much weird fantasy stuff going on... Not easy to understand all of that. My English is quite good by now, but when it comes to how which abilities work and all that weird magic/fantasy mambo chambo ....I do have some problems here and there.
But ok, I don't think there is a big need to get that to 100% as long as you can still follow what is going on.
Spoiler
The fact that Nxylgsptinz (not a typo) betrayed Supergirl wasn't a big surprise, but that storyline in the phantom zone was ok.
In the next episode ("Prom Night!") they will travel back in time to Kara's old high school (damn it! Legends of Tomorrow infected another show with that....).
The promo picture for the episode ("Prom again!") after that on IMDB just shows Supergirls upper body, but it clearly looks like she would wear her old outfit again! Would be nice to have her back in skirt and pantyhose again...and even if would just be for the episode ...or some parts of it.

Well for episode 5
Spoiler
There was NO appearance by Melissa this week beyond the voice over, and intro "rewind" video.
I'm NOT a happy camper! This is Supergirl, not Super-buddies and Kara! They could've at least had an 5-8 minute video of what she was doing in the Phantom Zone this week!
For extra fun, what did they do with all the earth they replaced with Brainy's space ship in the infield? Also, honestly didn't we expect some fuck up with him?
How about they should've had blood packs in storage somewhere, probably the Fortress, just in case she gets messed up agin, like in her fight vs. Reign. Or hair samples in her apartment?
These writers just suck so hard! I guess they thought time travel is cool, and just HAD to do a time travel ep. Should've brought one member of Legends of Tomorrow with their mini time ship for this ep.

My 2 cents.

Yep, that episode 5 was no fun.
Spoiler
They have already massively interfered with the past, how does that not will dramatically change the future? But ok, long ago I stopped to think too hard about this time travel thing. And as Danorian I had hoped they would have some snippets from SG in the Phantom Zone.
But I hope that in the next episode ....something great will happen (check my post above)

If it wasn't for Covid-19 problems, the next episode would have the Legends showing up to fix the time problems the aliens created. They really could have fun with a drunken Rory and Sara hitting on Cat.

The writers would like a spin-off show, "Middle" to keep them employed. No worries about the lead getting pregnant for several seasons. Just union time limitations on how many hours the kids can work.

Episode 6
Ok, the promo picture I found on IMDB (^above) was a total hoax. Guess they misplaced it.
Spoiler
As episode 6 has the same setting as episode 5, it has pretty much the same problems.
No Supergirl, time travel mambo chambo, goofiness, LOTS of feelings and little action.
And young Kara shows up for prom night in a dress-pants outfit....quite bizarre. Looks like a long dress down to the ankles at first but it actually has shiny pants of the same material underneath. Was she afraid of showing her ankles? :giggle:
Why would someone wear such a weird-ass combo, especially with a dress that already covers everything? Seems like the dress was too "sexy" to just wear it?
That outfit looks like she grew up in a catholic nun school...

On the good side episode 7 will be placed in the present again. So, one Supergirl episode with Supergirl is coming up before Supergirl goes on break for quite some time (Superman&Lois takes over the time slot).
