What format?

I have been working on my video all week and have about half of it done now. I have started on the trailer and I began to wonder what video players people use most. The reason is, I use VLC, but the default settings make videos look horrible in the black ranges. A few tweaks and the video looks as it was intended. I see that there are quite a few on the .wmv and .mp4 side with a couple .mov's. My question is what format do you prefer, or do you prefer a format at all?

I am currently leaning towards .mp4 due to size. Mp4's compresses well and makes downloads quicker, while .wmv will have an easier time with compatibility yet nearly double the size.

Would love to hear thoughts!

For me Mp4 is a good format, not really care much for it for so having quality
