So uh, has anybody heard of this? Seems like a dream come true.

I am very impressed by the story. The origin story is completely original and fits pop culture. It has been years since we had a fully original superhero, and Valentine is our girl. I see so much potential in this movie.

It's from Indonesia. So much potential for pop-culture creativity in Southeast Asia - the Philippines had the advantage there for decades because of
English-language familiarity but hopefully the rest of the region is now catching up. The heroine is gorgeous, and looks a bit like Hit-Girl.

Kudos to Shout Factory as well for taking a chance on this. As well as being the owners of the well-known Rhino Records, they are now marketing Mystery Science Theater 3000, the Sesame Street library, and Roger Corman's New Concorde studio output including Black Scorpion (!). I'll have to figure out how to get my local comics shop to stock this.

The heroine reminds me a bit of pro wrestler Sasha Banks. I guess that's a good thing.

Just discovered that Valentine: the Dark Avenger is free on Youtube with ads.

All the English dialogue is overdubbed but it's not too bad.
It's a watchable action movie with lots of Bruce Lee-style fighting. She has no powers, just martial arts.
The actress is beautiful, and the costume is "functional" but also tight and moves well - an excellent compromise.
There are some perilous moments but she gets out of predicaments quickly so you'll have to do some freeze-pausing.
There is a lot of footage where the actors don't talk at all (the three villainesses pretty much don't say anything the
entire movie) and there is a lot of "show not tell" through various montages.
They set up another superhero who appears right at the end, so it looks like they are trying to create a "Skylar Comics"
universe - there hasn't been any more live-action yet, but they did post a motion comic on their Youtube channel.

The only problem I have with the character is that Valentine actually seems rather ineffectual in her own movie.
I mean a *ton* of people get killed, including police, along with the very people she should be trying to save. I won't say
any more about that - almost anyone on the Forum should be able to enjoy this for what it is - a very solid
superheroine flick. No love interest (also very weird, you'd think there would be!) so the "sexiness" is pretty much
all in the action and movement of the character.

"Age-restricted" so you have to click on the link.

I just watched this on DVD. It was worth every penny. Some of the bigger special effects look cheesy, but the fights are very well done. Some of the moves (especially in the chase scenes) are done more for show than to be effective.
I would definitely buy more films with Valentine as the heroine. :)
