"In the Wild" Peril Thread

Heyo.

We've already got a running thread going for chloroform scenes, but I thought it'd be nice to have a specific space to post stuff from actual comics or cartoons; or other mainstream, official media, of superheroines being captured and trussed and imperilled and so on.

I thought I'd start with a couple of cartoon gifs.

Those are really good. Not a huge fan of Sue's hairstyle in the first image, but the peril is great. I always really love those powerful, heavy shackles: they both let you know the heroine is powerful, since it took so much to hold her, but also that she has been very much accounted for.

I don't suppose you have a larger resolution image of that fourth one? The four panel chloroforming one?

While that's certainly a nice image, I think you've somewhat missed the point of this thread, which was to share peril from actual mainstream publications. Why not start a new thread for fanart or some such?

I know it's aimed at adults but it's a mainstream superhero comic where a lascivious tendril is dripping a viscous white substance onto the breasts of a helpless, cringeing woman.

A little suggestive for the COVER, no?

From Filmation's Super 7. Too few episodes, but peril in most episodes, specially for Webwoman.

No supposedly it's from a legal term 'For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge.
Barristers would ask in the changing rooms what cases each other had and the answer would be Fucking.
But that's probably bs too, but I had heard it in several places so who knows

It is definitely not that. Its etymology is uncertain, but probably just a cognate of similar German/Germanic words, like the Dutch 'fokken'.

It was used in that context in the 1800s but as you say likely not the origin of it but supposedly that's what made it 'popular in vulgar circles

IIRC before the 15th century the word "fuck" meant "to beat" or "to strike," and probably it's traceable back to some Old Norse or other Germanic root. That's why "windfucker" is an archaic name for kestrels (yes, really), referring to the beating of their wings. There are obvious ways that meaning could drift into a reference to sex.

Nice to see such kinky bondage in modern comics Shevek!!
I remember feeling that odd feeling inside when I was too young to know what porn was but old enough to enjoy looking at my older step brothers comic books....Gen13, X-Men, new mutants, Fantastic four...he had a nice stash with lots of great peril and kink!!plus he had adult comics and magazines that I accidently found lol!!!

It doesn't happen too often, batgirl1969 - the "progressive puritan" minded editors usually watch out for any sign of making a woman look helpless. But occasionally very obvious things slip through, like this front cover of Justice League Dark #3 (2018). A very well-drawn busty Diana hanging upside down, unconscious and helpless, with bugs crawling on her. Unfortunately, it's a ruse: there are no scenes in the issue which actually look like this.

However, on the first page of the same issue, there is a flashback to when Zatara is teaching Zatanna how to release herself from a chain trap. It's technically not "peril" because she is not in danger, but it is bondage for Zatanna.

I know we've discussed Empowered in other threads, as being the most purely bondage and peril-minded 'mainstream' (in the sense that you can pretty much find it in any well-stocked comic shop) superheroine comic of the 21st century.

But in specific, the Empowered Vol. 3 tpb is the single book that's probably the most dense with peril and bondage tropes. Recommend that anyone who's serious about comics peril pick up a physical copy of it. But here are some examples. You have to get used to the fact that Adam Warren draws it in black-and-white, and in the style of an American manga. But if you like Tim Lim's Kamen America, you should have no problem with the artistic approach.

In this tale, Empy is completely objectified, just treated as a "package" to be shipped to the supervillain's secret poker game.

In this one, Empy is the "chloroform slut" for the supervillain Chloroformaster, who considers himself an artist in the craft of rendering people unconscious. This is where we got the idea for the supervillainess Chlorina (the human chloroform machine) for Heroineburgh.

Like I said above, if you want to see more, you should definitely pick up the trade in your Local Comic Shop!

[went on a bit of a rant here, now redacted to reflect subsequent events]

On-topic: pleased to see the "emPowered" panels, I honestly wasn't sure if she'd really be a real example of "in the wild" peril but I guess it was at least technically a mainstream comic. Big fan, at any rate.
