Hate to say this regarding the trailer, this movie looks really promising. I resist hype to the best of my abilities as a mere human nerd but holy shit the cast they've got for this looks incredible. Donnie Yen, Riz Ahmed, Forrest Whittaker, and that's just the three guys from movies I think are properly awesome (Ip Man series, Four Lions and Ghostdog: Way of the Samurai). Looks like they are getting together a fantastic ensemble cast for something that has all the makings of being a 21st century take on a Star Wars interpretation of The Dirty Dozen, and no part of that is a bad thing.
Honestly think this is the most hyped I've been for anything Star Wars in a long time. And given how many times I've been burned as a Star Wars fan, frankly I'm impressed they can still tickle me at all. But, y'know, they shoot an AT-AT in the face with a rocket launcher. I'm not made of stone.
This does look a lot like a much more grown up Star Wars film, a more mature take, what you might call one for the old school fans. I hope that guess is on the money.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - Teaser Trailer
Why do you hate to say that? It shouldn't feel like you're having to step out of your comfort zone to be excited about a film. Film's are made specifically to excite and entertain us. It is their very purpose... so... yeah, just enjoy the feeling, no reason to feel like you've commuted some sort of betrayal to your inner trailer critic or something :P
Anyhow, yeah it looks good. It COULD still suck, lots of great trailers are to bad films, but from the trailers themselves, Rogue One is looking fantastically promising.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - Teaser Trailer
I wonder if there's any chance of (surviving) Rogue One characters showing up in Episodes VIII and IX? After all, this is a galaxy where bounty hunters freeze captives in carbonite.

I don't mind if they don't. I'm kind of expecting them all to die anyway to be honest. And that's fine, because Disney (and I cannot believe I am saying this) have shown they can create good Star Wars characters, so I won't miss these ones if they get blown up because there'll be more later.Heroine Addict wrote:I wonder if there's any chance of (surviving) Rogue One characters showing up in Episodes VIII and IX? And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the hype has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain. And then I'll watch the movie.”Femina wrote:Why do you hate to say that? It shouldn't feel like you're having to step out of your comfort zone to be excited about a film. Since music is rarely appreciated in these things, I just also want to point out that the newest trailer has possibly the most gripping version of the imperial march ever.

First trailer was exciting, but the newest one got me hooked. I tend to like the "non" main trilogy stuff with Star Wars and this looks really promising. I'd rather they spend time telling some alternate stories and really wish they would go back and do some Old Republic movies, or hell even a KOTOR film with Malak and Revan.

Well we know 'many Boithans died to get those plans' (or something like that) from New Hope. If that mob are Bothans then a lot of them are gonna buy the farm. If only they could have emailed them to the rebels instead of a memory stick by snail mail/diplomatic freighter....

I'd laugh if there's a scene where they had the information over to a big group of Bothans right before the end and then say something like, "Hey, be careful okay guys?" and the Bothans are like, "What could go wrong?"tallyho wrote:theScribbler wrote:I'm kind of expecting at least one to survive and in the last scene give the plans to Princess Leia.Dogfish wrote:I don't mind if they don't. Didn't the Bothans die stealing the plans for the second Death Star? Maybe they could show the Bothans celebrating that nobody died on this mission?Dogfish wrote: I'd laugh if there's a scene where they had the information over to a big group of Bothans right before the end and then say something like, "Hey, be careful okay guys?" and the Bothans are like, "What could go wrong?"

Yes. As far as we know ZERO Bothans died getting the plans for the first Death Star.Heroine Addict wrote:Didn't the Bothans die stealing the plans for the second Death Star? Sorry Guys, but it's just how the fiction was written.

Wouldn't mind seeing Felicity Jones given the old carbonite treatment.Heroine Addict wrote:I wonder if there's any chance of (surviving) Rogue One characters showing up in Episodes VIII and IX? After all, this is a galaxy where bounty hunters freeze captives in carbonite.
But back on topic in the thread, the trailer looks great and I am excited for December.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - Teaser Trailer
Not sure I like the delivery of "May the force be with us."
"I rebel" seemed similarly hokey.
I guess Star Wars films are full of hokey dialogue. It's just Felicity seems to break character when she delivers the catchphrasey soundbitey lines. I half expect her to give a wink and a thumbs-up.

I dunno, it works for Star Wars. I think it's the trailer lines too, they always sound off.Heroine Addict wrote:Not sure I like the delivery of "May the force be with us."

Have to say, I didn't catch this at first look, but she is properly hot. Kind of hot that can only be reached by being a little bit unconventional looking. The grubby rebel trooper look is not an easy one to pull off either but she wears it very well.
Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - Teaser Trailer
She was a hairs breath from being 'Black Cat' in the third Amazing Spider-Man film before that was scrapped. :( I mean, I'm happier that Spider-Man is back with Marvel and all, but I am sad that means Black Cat is once again pushed back because of it.Dogfish wrote:I dunno, it works for Star Wars. As for Star Wars dialogue.......... I'm going to say something that isn't really all that controversial here. Star Wars hasn't ever had great dialogue. TFA has its own problems here and there, but has the best dialogue and line delivery of the entire series because it wasn't written or directed by George Lucas, but all of the series's beloved catch phrases are products of a man who didn't actually write spectacular dialogue. No one noticed in the original trilogy because back then a LOT of movies had bad dialogue, the standards were lower. The Prequels were GLARING in their awful dialogue, and if the entire series has some bad dialogue here and there going forward... it's not like the series doesn't have a history of sketchy lines.

It was more how Felicity delivers "I rebel" and "May the force be with us". Almost as if she's breaking the fourth wall.

I guess that is now the only real "blockbuster" left for me this year... And perhaps there is another masked female stormtrooper in it ;-)
Perhaps even an unmasking...that would be great

Keep em masked I say some mysteries are better left unsolved.
