Larra whimpered. Already more exhausted and beaten than she had ever been in her young life, she could barely believe that her ordeal seemed to be just beginning. She pleaded to the italian soldiers as her arms were raised over her head and secured to a ring at the top of a stout stone post.
One of the soldiers approached with a whip and Barzagli snatched it from him. “I’ll do this myself,” he said. “I’ll get the mignotta to talk.”
