Larra looked up into the face of a man illuminated only by the light of a dimly lit lantern. He was quite young, probably only a year or two older than she was, with dark eyes, black curly hair, and a kindly face framed by gold spectacles. “Who are you?” she asked noting the medical insignia on his uniform.
“Tenente Mario Adimari of the Royal Italian Medical Corps. You are under my care. And I will make sure that Sergente Uzzitsi and Capitano Barzagli do not molest you any further.”
