Larra and Adimari darted through an opening in the ruins. They were just in time. A hail of bullets followed them into the pillars and broken heaps of stone. Larra turned once and fired back in the general direction of the camp. “That should keep them guessing,” she remarked. And then she took off into the ruins with Adimari following.
The ruined city was a maze of columns, fallen chunks of stone, and tangled vegetation. It took her and Adimari only a minute until they had moved deep enough that following them would prove difficult if not impossible. “We should be far enough away for now,” Larra I don’t think they will be able to follow unless they have a dog.”
“There is no dog,” Adimari said. He gave a small smile: “Unless you count Sergeant Uzzitsi.”
Larra grinned back. She was beginning to like Adimari more and more.
