Knotted cleave gags are a classic and have a “found” quality about them. A penis gag is probably the most effective for muffling… Ring gags are good for drowning perils and forced blow jobs (not as good as spider gag). A classic ball gag has simplicity. They look delicious on the right girl.

Although manufactured bondage gags are beautiful, I find that in a live-action situation the best kind of gag is an improvised one, created almost at the spur of the moment to suppress the defeated character (whether heroine or villainess). (So, I voted for the rag.)

In the recently released Heroineburgh Custom #7, our customer requested that Mesmera (mistress of hypnotism) be bound and gagged, similar to the way she was all the way back in Episode 2. So we had the heroine Vendetta improvise by quickly ripping up a T-shirt into a gag cloth, and applying it to Mesmera, who struggled in her bonds while awaiting capture by the authorities.

However, after seeing the lovely photo Tallyho posted of Yvonne Craig gagged as Batgirl, I probably would have gone with the gag being a bit more tapered so we could see Mesmera's lips as she struggled and 'mmmfff'd'. Next time we do a gagging, I'll definitely do that.
