A proper hello

Hi! I joined this site a few months ago, but I've never come around to actually properly introducec myself.
I won't reveal too much about myself for now, just to be safe, but what I can let you know is that I was thrilled to discover this website! Like many before me, upon visting multiple pages, I had my: "Oh thank goodness, I'm not the only person into this stuff"-moment. I haven't posted anything yet, but I just love being around here, seeing what other people are doing on here.

A bit about myself:
I'm just a regular guy from the Netherlands (apologies if my English contains errors), between the ages of 18-21. I'm happy to see that like many others that visit this platform, I'm into superheroines, the idea of being saved by some hot girl/woman kicking butt, using all sorts of superpowers, I love it! Sometimes I also kind of whish I could be like them, you know, with the powers and the costumes and all. Which is why I do some crossplay (dressing up as a character of your opposite gender) sometimes. Not in public, I'm waaay too anxious and embarrassed for that, instead I do it in my room, when everyone sleeps, in secret (like the weird teen I am). In recent months, I managed to buy some costumes on Aliexpress and Ebay which I wear from time to time, usually 2-3 times a month.

My favourite superheroine is Supergirl (can't go wrong with the classics baby), I just think her design is very cute and hot, and I love how ridiculously powerful she is, easily lifting entire buildings, breaking the sound barrier with no effort, freezing or blowing stuff away with her superbreath (I wonder what else those lips are good for) or frying you alive with her heat beams. The same applies to her Japanese counterpart/rip-off 'Accel Girl', by the NSFW film producer Giga. Hence, I also have a costume to be her.

I do recognise the fact that to the casual observer (as in, an outsider to this website), I probably am just a sad nerd. I don't have many friends, I do not really like the proffesion I'm currently being educated in (media design) and most people frown when you tell them you wear girl halloween costumes to pass the Friday night... Oh well, at least I don't share it with the outside world (except for all you lunatics ;) ).

Anyways, I just had the terrible idea of sharing some photo's of me, forever leaving a mark on the internet, ready to be downloaded by god-knows-who (see attachments). As you can see, I blurred the background, again, just to be safe. What do you think of it? For the Accelgirl photo, I didn't have my trusty silicone breast belt yet, so I still have my disaspointingly flat chest. And a bad wig too. I don't really think I can pass for a girl all that well, even with a blonde wig and some fake breasts (good thing the terrible image quality hides my hairy man legs too).

So yeah, glad to be here! If you guys like my crossplay, I might consider to post some more ;)

Hey, welcome to the site!

No judgement here - "an' it harm none", as the witches love to say, get your superheroine jollies out however you want, and discuss them on the Forum!

As a Dutchman, however (which I have not encountered on this Forum before, unless I am mistaken), I was wondering about something:

Did you grow up watching the Flemish superheroine show Mega Mindy? Pretty sure it was shown in Holland in addition to Belgium.
I ask because [similar to Kaboom! in Quebec around the same time] the show ran six seasons (2006-2014) and spawned four movies and a traveling stage show which must have traveled all around Europe especially Dutch-speaking areas.

With nearly a whole generation of Dutch & Belgian zoomers growing up on the show, I would find it difficult to imagine there aren't quite a few people of college and early 20something age who developed a bit of a fetish for the beautiful Free Souffriau in that tight spandex costume and that unique mask, her transformations and her perils and combat, as well as her equally sexy nemesis, Volta.

Haven't found many other people who even know about the show, although Red5 and Maskripper are informed, I'm sure.
Any luck there?

Hello again, and thanks for all the replies! As a matter of fact shevek, Mega Mindy was one of my favourite childhood shows. In Holland it aired on childeren's television channel NPO Zappelin, along with other shows from the same studio. I have some fond memories of me and my friend watching episodes, shouting at the TV when Mega Mindy was in danger, that sort of shenanigans.

And to answer your thoughts, I do indeed have a soft spot for the characters of the show. Not to mention how the looks of the show hold up after more than a decade: Studio 100 productions always stood out from other media produced in The Netherlands and Belgium due to the heavy use of fully built sets and special effects. I'm honestly still blown away by how ahead of it's time some of the effects were, not because of the effects themselves (basic light beams, particle effects, people hovering in the air or being shrunken down), but more so because they weren't used in some high budget American movie, but rather just some random Belgian kids show.

Some of my favourite scenes are from the movie 'Het geheim van Mega Mindy' ('The secret of Mega Mindy') in which the aformentioned 'Volta' (technically 'Miss Volta or Mega Volta') appears. I love the scene where Miss Volta obtains her mega powers, from the start of the scene where her goons clumsily activate the transformation machine. It's such a bad-ass move as her gang stares at the empty capsule in which she entered, fearing the transformation to be a failure and their boss now gone, when they hear a voice from an overviewing platform: 'Gentlemen, here I am.' 'From now on, it's MEGA Volta!'. And there she is, in her sexy black and dark teal costume, smirk on her face like a teacher from your worst nightmares. Then she uses her mega speed to race around town to steal all valuable items, cackling like a madman as she speeds in her tight spandex(?) bodysuit back to the hideout, before declares: 'I will rob the entire world, and there is no-one, absolutley no-one, can stop me...'

You also mention peril, which occurs the end of the movie, when Mega Volta manages to trap Mega Mindy in some kind of forcefield, stripping her of her powers. I am personally in love with the sassy attitude she has, as she taunts our flamingo-pink heroine. To me she sounds like an elementary school teacher against a rebellious 4-year old: absolutley not impressed by Mega Mindy's threats of stopping her, because girl, she is in control! This cocky behaviour swiftly dissapears as Mega Mindy manages to defeat her, Volta yelling and crying like a spoiled toddler as she is blasted away.

The last clip that makes my heart beat faster is from a music clip called 'Mega Mindy Tijd' ('Mega Mindy Time'). In this clip, Mega Mindy meets some girls working in a factory, but with the press of a button, she summons a bunch of rock instruments, and gone are the dirty worker's clothes: all 3 of the girls are transformed into stunning superheroes wearing costumes resemebling Mega Mindy's own costume, except they use black as the main color instead of pink and red. With each girl playing an instrument and Mindy herself as the lead singer, the music starts blasting into what is admittedly a pretty good song (as far as the instrumentals go, I'm not a huge fan of the obviously childish lyrics).

So yeah, I am very familliar with Mega Mindy, hadn't thought about it in a while, so thank you for brining in this up!
Also, as a side note: do you have any feedback on the crossplay? I haven't seen a lot of people posting stuff about cosplay so far, so I'm not sure whether this site is the right place for it.

Anyways, thank you so much for replying to my post, I feel very welcome :D

No problem. The scenes you listed above from Mega Mindy and Mega Volta are quite sexy indeed, and you didn't even mention the fight between the two characters which happens in the factory. And yes, I've seen the Mindy rock and roll video with the tight costumes.

As far as posting about cosplay, I think our friendly mods will point you to the Cosplay subforum. It's the same place where I maintain an ongoing thread about Heroineburgh's costumed adventures at Comicons. So start a cosplay thread there, and keep posting your photos in it. Hopefully you can get feedback there.

And, if you get really enterprising about it, recruit some gorgeous Dutch girls, grab a camera, find some costumes and a location, and start filming your own superheroine content at a precocious age, just like Damian from SHL did. We could always use a new perspective on the genre from lovely Holland!

[Also, if any of these names ring a bell, I'm a fan of legendary Dutch art-punks The Ex; electro and techno producers Legowelt and I-F; and the experimental music label Staalplaat Records. Long live Dutch sounds!]
