So, it was 1977 and still maybe a handful of months before I had bought my first comic with my own money (Star Wars #1) at the newsstand. The newsstand was exactly halfway between my school and my house, so it was a natural consequence of independent
mobility - you got your candy, your baseball cards, and your comics.
But, everyone at school received free 'Scholastic' magazines, and the proper magazine for my grade level was Supermag.
Thus, the first superheroine item I ever received was this issue of Supermag with Lynda Carter on the cover, and photos of her inside showing her full costume.
It wasn't the first time I had seen beautiful superladies on TV. I had already seen many to stimulate my interest: Ariel, Electra Woman & Dyna Girl, Isis, Bionic Woman, Tara, Emma Peel, and the version of Wonder Woman on Super Friends. Not to mention that there was no shortage of supermodel posters around, and everyone admired the likes of Charlie's Angels and Police Woman. Strangely, the only place where superfemales in spandex were lacking was the classic Spider-Man cartoon.
But lordy lordy, was this a revelation, and my life was never the same. From then on, I couldn't get enough of superheroines in comics, and I looked specifically for sexy heroines in spandex on the newsstand covers. When you have discernment like that, it's easy to pick out and purchase Supergirl, Black Cat, Batgirl, Teen Titans, Dagger, X-Men, Red Sonja, Dazzler, Dial H for Hero, Spider-Woman, and quite a few more.
But there was nothing - NOTHING - like falling in love with this magazine cover and the subsequent TV show. Love for Lynda!
