Help needed for our new members

Hello,

I was recently contacted by PowerMILF, who mentioned having issues posting on the forum. Is there any way to lift the block for her at your earliest convenience?

Also, is it possible to brainstorm a friendlier way to welcome new members to the forum?

I understand the need to prevent spam, but perhaps we could create a form to assess the validity of new registrations. For example, new members could explain why they are joining, what their intentions are, and how they learned about the site. This could be done without requesting personal information, while helping to separate genuine members from potential bots.

PowerMILF does not seem like a bot, and even if she were, she presents herself very convincingly as human.

Moving forward, it would be great if genuine members could post freely and join discussions without being blocked by a system that is not functioning as intended. Spam is still present, though less than before, but a difficult registration process might discourage new contributors.

This is not a complaint, just a suggestion to make the forum more welcoming.

I appreciate that you put thought into this, however I doubt a form as you describe would be effective. Who or what will have to validate the form?

With potentially 10s of users registering every day surely this can't be done manually, and letting a bot review them sets you up of all sorts of unforeseen issues.

Besides, depending on what this form would ask a new user I'm very sure every basic bot can just fill in nonsense or filler text and bypass this anti-spam measure enteriley.

I agree that this site needs to take action against this flood of code-based conquerers, but this form idea has a lot of flaws. Perhaps there is some sort of Captcha module/plugin/addon-thing that can be added to the site, which requires new users (and hopefully only the meat-filled ones) to solve it?

I think the best solution to this is to have more, or more active, mods for the site so the wait for a first post to be reviewed is shorter. I think new members needing their first post reviewed makes a lot of sense - recent events have made that very clear - but that process may be a bit broken if it takes days or weeks before a mod is able to get to it.

I agree it's an issue. The last thing we need is to be turning away new members in a community that seems to be dwindling as it is.

I don't have the answers, only ideas, and yes, most of them are shoite. That's why it takes time for me to write anything.

Quick follow-up: some of the new members, the real ones, are feeling a bit demoralized by the current situation.

Would it be possible for someone with admin permissions to look into allowing them to post?

Totally get the need to fight spam, but it’d be a shame to end up pushing genuine people away in the process.

I totally understand but bots are usually not that clever, and usually don't respond to mail, they normally invite us to buy property in places that don't exist or provide links to proper scams....

I too had to contact you guys at the time to be able to post if I remember well. Was totally worth it, and I felt very welcome once it was all said and done, but I can recall feeling a little discouraged like PowerMilf at the time.



I mean if this is indeed a bot, I think it deserves a spot.
