Not sure if this is anyone's cup of tea, but Capcom just dropped the trailer for the new Street Fighter movie during Game Con. (along with Ace Combat 8 trailer, which is the highlight of Game Con 2025 for me)
Being born in the 80s, I had spent a lot of time (and money) on Street Fighter. This is probably my all-time game growing up, and they didn't skim out of costume on this movie, that's a plus
The trailer is campy, nerdy, and nothing but fights, which is what I would have expected to be for a True Street Fighter movie (IMO the 1994 film with Van Damme and Kylie Minogue has too much of a storyline to make it worse)
Anyway, I think if you are a big Street Fighter fan like me, you probably will be hyped.
Here's the trailer
The new Street Fighter Movie (2026)

Yep... You and me both. Eventually I even got good at quarter circles and shit.spikeeagle2 wrote: ↑6 months agoBeing born in the 80s, I had spent a lot of time (and money) on Street Fighter.
This is looking very good to me, and it goes to show we have left the era of superhero movies and are slowly entering the era of video game adaptations.
A seemingly faithful adaptation of the game, without trying to take the material too seriously, but at least respectfully.
“You Win” at the end feels like an affirmation more than a reference.
Now this one actually got me hyped, even though I wasn’t expecting anything at all out of it.

Re: The new Street Fighter Movie (2026)
I kind of hate the casting all over the place, but it looks like this could still be a fun, flashy romp. I also have great affection for these characters, so it's really cool to see them making a return to the cinema.
What I'd love to see would be a film or series with Arcane-like animation for street fighter - I think that would be gang busters. Either way, I'll keep my fingers crossed that this is better than the casting makes me imagine it will be.

lol, the quarter circle, you probably played Ryu (or was it Ken) a lot.......I usually go Vega or Bison (ashamed to say, so I can get a kick beating up Chunli or Cammy)Malice wrote: ↑6 months agoYep... Anyway, I think they are doing a good job, not really that serious, but respectful to the original, which I think is what draws gamers into the film. I don't need a whole lot of script going on, how Bison takes hostage and takes over the world, that's not what or why I was into Street Fighter......

Well, if I remember correctly, this is a collab between Capcom and Legendary (A Chinese film producer), which you would expect a lot of Asian characters in it, for me, I think the female were not hot enough, I mean you had Kylie Minogue as Cammy in 1994, and Mel Janson is just not cutting it (She is half Thai and half Australian by the way) I mean, if they want to stay Australian, there are several better choice I think would be better, first in mind is of course Margot Robbie. Chunli is also a bit meh, but I get it they wanted more action than being hot. And I doubt A-listers would do any "real" stage fight, I would imagine.Void wrote: ↑6 months agoI kind of hate the casting all over the place, but it looks like this could still be a fun, flashy romp. But for some reason, I don't really like the animation format of Street Fighter, I thought I might as well just play the game...

I of course played Cammy and Chun-Li when no one was looking, way later, when I finally got my hands on a proper console. Aaaaah, those were the days…

lol, yeah, those were the days, the last time I played Street Fighter was back in 2016 when they released SF V at either Pax or Game Con, I remember I was playing against a promo girl dressed up as Cammy at the stall.......fun time...Malice wrote: ↑6 months agoDhalsim all day!spikeeagle2 wrote: ↑6 months agoBeing born in the 80s, I had spent a lot of time (and money) on Street Fighter.

Since I don't play video games and I'm minimally interested in martial arts movies (I'm much more of a sci-fi guy and also some sword & sorcery or historical epics) I don't know if I'd watch this whole movie, so for me it would up to whether the female fighters look good in tight costumes. When it's released, I'll check and see.
But being from Pittsburgh, I need to make this one correction: Legendary Pictures is not from China. They're based in Burbank, and owned by billionaire Thomas Tull, who lives in the Pittsburgh suburb of Edgeworth. Tull's fortune is no joke - just last month, he donated enough money to the Pittsburgh Food Bank to cover 150,000 meals and is on the board of my alma mater, Carnegie Mellon University. A Chinese company had a stake in Legendary for a while, but Tull bought them out.
Legendary is mainly known for the series of Godzilla and other kajiu movies, and they also have a comic book division - their first comic release was Frank Miller's controversial Holy Terror graphic novel where he pitted an original hero against Al Qaeda.

This film looks like such a wierd mix of faithful/not faithful. quality and cheap... Chun Li's not wearing an authentic costume, CAMMY is... but cammy's costume looks like a LAZY cosplay. Ryu looks faithful AND quality.
My strong suspicion is, nobody actually cared about this film.
