Thoughts on AI in helping with Fan works?
Thoughts on AI in helping with Fan works?
What are ya'll's thoughts and recommendations on AI use in Fanfiction works? I've been tinkering around ChatGPT and others (when I can access them) Has anyone here any expierence with them. I've been on SORA (ChatGPT) at first it seemed to work really but then it gets crazy with refusing to do even the most mundane and innocent images you can think of. Basically refusing any images that has even the slightest bit of intimacy or brand names (Copyright issues I'm assuming). And the other ones advertised as 'uncensored' companies (venice.ai) are quite buggy and hard to access. It's too bad because here are some images I made (on Sora before it got stupid with censorship) and they came out awesome if you ask me. Any thoughts or advice moving foward?

Re: Thoughts on AI in helping with Fan works?
I've read some AI created super heroine stories ands they vary in quality. Most will use the prompt of a specific name, but the stories are generic with very little content related to the heroine that someone with basic knowledge would include. Examples of the failures are wrong costume, not using their powers, and acting like a normal woman and not a heroine.
Also some people just post the results without making an attempt to edit the stories. A little work could fix mistakes and make them better.

I use it for generating cover art for heroine peril books, and for that purpose I think it is outstandingly good (provided you put in the time iterating with it and cleaning it up), and Malice has used it to do really incredible things with copyrighted characters. Beyond that, most will struggle to depict a copyrighted character at all in any context, and will likewise filter anything overtly sexual between characters.
A slight work around for the copyright wall is to describe the appearance of the character to it, rather than just say 'Supergirl', but I think it will still come out looking a little off. For the black magic of how to get explicit images with copyright characters, I would recommend messaging Malice to ask how they're doing it.
For fiction, its ability to write has similar constraints, as well as struggling to compose anything beyond a short, simple story - but I am very, very impressed with AI's knowledge of our genre, and its ability to be creative in constructing individual paragraphs of narrative is actually a little bit mind blowing to me. If you iterated with it enough, you could probably get it to spit out an okay, if necessarily tame, story about some original characters, but if you instead wanted to use it to collaborate with you, offer you story ideas, character ideas, and walk you through how to compose and write that story - then I think it's probably an amazing resource. Particularly Copilot, imo - which knows our genre so well that it can give you deep textual analysis of specific SHiP stories and writers.
If you wanted it to write the full story, then I would recommend setting the table first so that it understands the genre, tone, and key elements to the story before getting told what the events of the story should be. You can even get it to assume the authorial voice and style of any writer it knows - which is basically all of them.

That’s a great question! AI can be both a tool and a topic when it comes to fan works (fanfiction, fan art, fan games, etc.).

I think it's really important to point out that we should absolutely NOT be generating images in the genre of existing people. G@l g@dot did not consent to being a physical piece of this fantasy.
This is wrong on multiple levels.

You're right I didn't think that through. Sorry about that. That's on me.superbia19872 wrote: ↑8 months agoI think it's really important to point out that we should absolutely NOT be generating images in the genre of existing people. Is there any chance A moderator or someone can delete the realistic image of cap carrying wonder (G@l G@dot)? I tried and it doesn't appear I can.

Totally agree! It’s fascinating how AI can inspire creativity and also become part of the story itself.
