Now the question is whether this will be a straight copy of the original plot, use other material from the comics, or just a new plot and only keep the character?

At least after training for Madam Web and Anyone But You, Sweeny is already in good shape for the part and to do action scenes. Got to have stamina for all the sex scenes that were more implied than shown.

Edgar Wright is a good director but he's not horny enough.

The original is a crazy flick with a script from (drug)hell... can only get better.
And adding Sydney Sweeney to that... definitely puts the movie on my radar :-)

Another vintage comic form the mid 1960s I wouldn't mind seeing get a movie treatment is The Adventures of Phobe Zeit-Geist.

Dream film, but yes, that's a good question.
Sarah Hoyt's recent Barbarella series on Dynamite has been fun, but she is mostly shown in the bright red jumpsuit in those comics.
It's hella tight, and not always zipped up, but she's in that uniform a lot, not the 60s one seen in the graphic.
So I'm wondering if that would also be her new uniform in the movie, since Dynamite has the rights to the character at present.

Would love to see her play Sheena Queen of the Jungle.

BTW this new version would just become like the newest Dr. Who

I would think the reason you remake Barbarella isn't just to make a female-fronted action movie. You make it because you want to have a bunch of crazy fetish stuff and you want a delivery mechanism for over the top costumes. I think a guy like Wright is too clean-minded to make a movie like this.

Phoebe Zeitgeist is legitimately a masterpiece written by one of the most influential comedy minds of all time. I don't think it'd work as a movie though. Maybe on streaming so they could have cliffhangers though.

This. Barbarella needs to be horny and campy, otherwise what’s the fucking point.

Is there really a point or a market for this in 2024?

Lets face it Jane Fonda was doing soft porn that eventually morphed in to the medium on to what was on HBO and Cinemas after 11:30 in the evening

One of the high end producers in this genre could produce a a parody of it which would have the sex violence which is what people wanted to see in the original.

Love Sydney Sweeney as Barbarella but I'm lowering my expectations on this movie. If they can maximize her limits like in The Voyeurs movie, then it would be awesome! But with her current popularity, I doubt if she will agree to do heavy scenes anymore. I hope I'm wrong.

Anyway, we can always go back to Axel Braun's version :D
